The general rule of thumb for bike and boat holidays is to book as early as possible. While it’s hard to pinpoint which tours will book up and when, certain popular trips sell out sooner than others, including the classic Amsterdam to Bruges – Deluxe and Comfort (and reverse itineraries), Danube bike and barge holidays and active boat trips in Provence and the Veneto.  

Departures in the heart of European summer tend to book out quicker than in the shoulder season. However, it is worth doing some homework on certain regions. For example, the tulips are on display in Holland between March and May, and June to August is the best time to see lavender fields in Provence.
