Cycling between Prague and Vienna
On the Greenways Cycle Trail
Although the Greenways Cycle Trail connects two of the most majestic and historic cities in Central Europe, few active travellers know about it. The Czech countryside is dotted with woods, the Djie National Park, the man-made Trebon Ponds and picturesque riverside vineyards whose cellar doors you can cycle right up to.
It’s an area rich in history and culture, which is evident in its impressive list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Vienna’s Schoenbrunn Palace, Telc’s Renaissance town square, Valtice and Lednice Chateaux and the famous medieval town of Cesky Krumlov, just to name a few.
Using the Greenways Cycle Trail, you can explore the fascinating and diverse Czech countryside between Prague and Vienna, and gain a deep appreciation of the historic and cultural sites you cycle past.
We recommend spending a few days in the refined Czech capital of Prague, ‘the City of a Hundred Spires’ before your trip starts to get lost in its magical cobbled lanes. Travellers often choose to extend their trip in imperious Vienna, the former home of the Habsburg Court and its many empires.
