Our Get Well Soon Letter to Italy

Hoping for a speedy recovery

Folks, these are grim times.

The recent decision by the Italian government to impose blanket travel restrictions on the entire country until April 3rd due to the spread of Coronavirus is unprecedented.

As a travel company that loves helping people explore Europe, we are made up of passionate staff who equally love exploring Europe. This situation is affecting us all.

Italy is one of those fantastic European nations that has it all for a traveller: the spectacular scenery of the Amalfi Coast, the ancient history of Rome, the romance of Tuscany, the spirituality of the Via Francigena route, the friendly people of Puglia, the fresh foods of Sardinia, and so it goes on.

Such is the diversity of Italy that we keep going back time and time again.

So, in light of this recent news, we have decided to reflect on the beauty of Italy and hope that this difficult period will be over as soon as possible.

Passenger & Staff Memories of Italy

Here are some of our favourite Italian memories from our passengers and staff.

The cities visited were amazing and staying in Ostuni, the White city a Trulli in Alberobello and a cave room in Matera were all wonderful experiences. Walking in Puglia. A. Sewell, Australia.

The hours before sunset are my favourite time in Italy, specifically in the town of Perugia in Umbria. Perugia is on a fortified mountaintop and at about 4pm all the locals come out to wander the streets and eat their daily gelato or have an afternoon coffee. I first arrived into Bolzano by train and WOW - not only the approach but the first view of this town at the base of the Dolomites is impressive! I loved this itinerary cycling from the north of Italy down to & across Lake Garda then east into Mestre (Venice) for a spectacular finish. Backroads to Venice. E. Nikol, Australia.

For us, we could not have chosen a better way to experience Italy than to drink in its ancient history by rambling through the picturesque countryside of olive groves & grapevines; & then in turn, taste their aromas in the food & wine of its regions. Food Lover’s Via Francigena. H. Yuen, Canada.

This was a magical trip. It was above our expectations in terms of the scenery. Snow covered mountains, glaciers, lakes and wildlife were part of each day's walking. While walking up col's was hard work, each time we reached the top, the views were outstanding and worth every bit of effort. Gran Paradiso Adventure. S. Grover, Australia.

The best food memory I have of Italy is devouring a calzone from a local take out shop in Milan. Not simply eating it but the whole process: pointing out the ingredients, gesturing wildly with the Italian chef, enjoying a negroni on the al fresco dining. I can still taste it.
