Paul Tierney: Running the Wainwrights

You may be familiar with the Wainwrights Way, also known as the Coast to Coast trail, in England. It's a cross country walking path that typically takes 15 days. Paul Tierney decided that wasn't enough, and aims to race to the top of all 214 peaks in England's Lake District.

In June 2019, inov-8 ambassador Paul Tierney set out on an epic adventure to summit all 214 Alfred Wainwright Lake District peaks in one go. His goal was to try and beat the record time of 6 days 13 hours and 1 minute, set five years earlier by fellow fell runner Steve Birkinshaw.

Needing to cover a distance of approximately 318 miles and ascend the equivalent height of four times Mt Everest, Paul knew this was his biggest challenge to date and enlisted the help of friends and family. Battling sleep deprivation and everything the Lake District weather could throw at him, what transpired was a story that gripped not only the fell-running and ultra-running communities but also the wider sporting world.

Hans Howald - Bicigrino

Swiss man Hans Howald has an incredibly bizarre way to spend his 70th birthday...he decided to do the Camino de Santiago...on a unicycle...starting from Oslo in Norway!

That's just a mere 5,039km. Or about 4,200km longer than your standard Camino Frances across Spain.

We also love his word for himself. In English, someone doing the Camino pilgrimage is a pilgrim (duh). In Spanish, it's a Peregrino. He's taken that to the next level to describe himself as a bicigrino (bicycle pilgrim!).

Our hats are off to Hans. I can't even pedal a unicycle for 5m!
