A bike and barge holiday solves the one thing that usually makes a multi-country cycling trip hard work: you unpack once, aboard your floating hotel, and everywhere else you wake up somewhere new. Days are spent on two wheels riding from village to village, and the barge carries your luggage (and you, if your legs need a rest) on to the next overnight mooring. It's an easy way to cover real ground through Europe's river valleys and canal networks without living out of a suitcase.

Bike and Barge Tours in France 2027

Provence by Bike and Barge is the trip our travellers keep coming back to for 2027. The route rides through the wild wetlands of the Camargue, where the region's famous white horses roam, then on through the Provençal villages and countryside around St Rémy de Provence that inspired Van Gogh, finishing near the Camargue coastline where the Rhône meets the Mediterranean.

Bike and Barge Tours along the Danube 2027

The Danube by Bike & Barge suits anyone keen to ride one of Europe's classic routes. It begins in Passau, Germany, crosses into Austria within the first couple of days, and works its way to Vienna, one of Europe's most elegant capitals. From there the route heads back through the Wachau Valley, past terraced vineyards, hilltop castles and riverside meadows on the return leg to Passau.

Beyond this route, our barge trips also continue further east into Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Romania, if you'd rather keep riding.

Holland was practically built for a bike and barge holiday: flat terrain, an endless network of canals, and a barge route for almost every mood. Bike and Barge Tours in Germany 2027

Germany's standout bike and barge route follows the Moselle. The river rises in the Vosges Mountains in the French region of Alsace, runs north along the Luxembourg border, and flows through Germany for 545km before joining the Rhine at Koblenz. Along the way it carves a valley thick with vineyards, home to one of Germany's oldest towns and a deep layer of Roman and medieval history.
