Arrive in Rome and meet with your guide at the hotel in the centre of Rome at 6pm. After settling in, there's a briefing with the guide to discuss the week's activities before dinner at a restaurant. Overnight in Rome.

Meals:  D

In the morning we will discover an unusual side of the city, taking a guided bike tour through the regional park of the Appia Antica, the old Roman road to Brindisi, rich in ancient treasures including basilicas and catacombs. Later we'll meet with a licensed guide for a tour on foot to discover the fascinating beauty of Rome: the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza di Spagna ... we will have a look at all the classics of this monument-packed city. Dinner is at leisure this evening and overnight in Rome. 2 hours walking and 2 hours cycling

Meals:  B,L

This morning we will leave Rome by train to Naples, where we are met by a minibus to continue to Herculaneum. Here we'll have a typical lunch in a family-run vineyard. After our short visit of the winery, we'll climb the sleeping giant of Mt Vesuvius. You can look right down into the steaming crater and imagine the eruption of 79 AD, when huge flaming boulders were hurled all the way to the Bay of Naples! The walk to the crater and back will take around 2 hours and is suitable for anyone of reasonable fitness. Later we'll transfer by minibus to our accommodation in Minori. Ascent/descent: +200m/656ft, -200m/656ft, 4km/2.5mi

Meals:  B,L,D

Today we will walk the trail between Agerola and Positano known as the “Path of the Gods”. This is an ancient terraced mule clifftop path linking the towns, offering spectacular views. Positano is a small and charming fishing village. From Positano to Minori, we'll take a boat to admire the Amalfi coast (subject to sea conditions), or alternatively a bus. Dinner and overnight in Minori. Ascent/descent: +200m/655ft, -700m/1510ft, 10km/6.2mi

Meals:  B,L,D

In the morning a private transfer will take us to the town of Amalfi, once a powerful maritime republic and where the Amalfi Tables were founded, the oldest maritime code in the world. After an interesting visit to the paper museum, we'll start our walk through the delightful Valle Mulini (‘valley of the mills’), once the centre of an important paper industry on the Amalfi coast. We'll arrive in Ravello, a picturesque and peaceful village located high on a cliff overlooking the sea, and have some free time to explore the village and have a gelato. Private transfer to Naples for overnight accommodation and dinner at your leisure. Ascent/descent: +500m/1640ft, -500m/1640ft, 11km/6.8mi

Meals:  B,L

After breakfast, we catch a boat to the Isle of Capri. Here we'll visit the Matromania caves and the 'Terrazza di Tragara', walking along a colourful path with villas and flower-filled gardens. We'll enjoy great views of Capri’s iconic limestone stacks known as the 'Faraglioni' and 'Monte Solaro'. In the afternoon we'll return to Naples where we will have a pizza making class - Naples is the birthplace of pizza after all! Ascent/descent: +300m/984ft, -300m/984ft, 7.5km/4.6mi

Meals:  B,D

After breakfast we will take a train to Pompeii for a guided visit of the ancient Roman town. Everyone knows the story of Pompeii, buried under ash for hundreds of years after the catastrophic eruption of nearby Vesuvius - but walking around and seeing this incredible sleeping city is quite another story. After our visit we will take a train back to Naples where we tour the underground Naples. Farewell dinner.

Meals:  B,D

After breakfast there will be a group transfer to Naples airport or train station, where the trip concludes.
