Watch: Camino del Norte

The Camino del Norte is rising in popularity as pilgrims seek alternative Camino trails to explore after already having completed the iconic Camino Frances path to reach Santiago de Compostela.
 
Another reason the Camino del Norte is trending is because the sequel to the classic film, The Way, is being filmed partly there (we can't wait for this one!).
 
And of course, the allure of beachside walking, regional cuisine, and the dynamic cities of San Sebastian, Santander and Bilbao, are compelling reasons as well. 
 
Enjoying the Camino del Norte | <i>Lachlan Baker</i>
 
This trail is known by a couple of names. In Spanish, Camino del Norte (or simply Camino Norte) means the Northern Way. Because it hugs the coastline, it is also known as Camino de la Costa, or the Coastal Way. It highlights four wonderful regions of Spain, starting in the Basque Country, then Cantabria and the Asturias before ending in Galicia.

Watch the Camino del Norte: Cantabria Section

The Cantabrian section of the Camino del Norte begins shortly after leaving Bilbao. The walking in this region is largely flat and along tracks that link historic fishing villages, with gorgeous sea views to keep you mesmerised. The capital of Cantabria is Santander. Watch the Camino del Norte: Asturias Section

Leave Cantabria behind and cross into the Asturias on Day 16 of the Full Camino Norte, walking over rolling green hills past the rural townships of La Acebosa, Serdio, Pesués, Unquera before arriving at your destination, Bustio. You'll stay in the Asturias until Day 27, when you cross the bridge of the Saints over the River Eo and enter Galicia, the last region of the walk.
