The Best of Eastern Europe

Take a walk in Bulgaria this yearAlpine lakes in the Rila Mountains, Bulgaria Here's some of our favourite tours taking in the very best of Eastern Europe. Bulgaria on Foot Boasting the highest mountains in the country between them, Bulgaria’s Rila and Pirin Mountain ranges provide a spectacular backdrop for trekkers exploring the alpine meadows surrounding them. Getting to the top of the Musala and Vihren, which at 2925m and 2914m are the respective number 1 and 2 highest peaks in Bulgaria, is just one tour highlight. Taking time out to encounter traditional villages and ponder at sites such as Rila Monastery all combine to provide an exceptional experience of the real Bulgaria. Romania: Transylvania Castles & Mountains The whole Transylvania region just oozes mystery. From the legend of Dracula right down to the ambience set by another local character, the Piatra Craiului. Meaning ‘Rock of Kings’ the Piatra Craiului delivers a regal experience indeed. The narrow set of mountains rise sharply out of the ground to form a dramatic series of ridges serving as vantage points for the divine views below. No wonder it’s considered one of the best ridge walks in all of Europe. Czech Republic: Cycle Prague to Vienna You’ll actually cross two borders at the same time on this cycle journey from Eastern to Western Europe. Combining two classic European cities with time visiting quaint villages and impressive castles, this itinerary is a pure delight. The cycling is along a mixture of quiet country backroads and cycle trails that skirt national parks, the wine country and of course cross an international border. Choose from guided or self guided or cycle from Vienna to Prague - view all the options. Slovakia & Hungary: Hungarian Rhapsody Cycle via Slovakia on your way to the Hungarian capital of Budapest on this 8 day self guided trip departing Vienna. Follow the path of the majestic Danube as it snakes its way from Austria through Slovakia and onto Hungary. You'll cycle through to Bratislava (pictured), past picturesque Hungarian farms and finally towards the ‘Paris of the East’, Budapest. Serbia & Romania: Belgrade to Bucharest Begin in one of Europe’s oldest city, Belgrade, before riding off to explore gentle stretches of spectacular countryside along the Danube River en route to Romania. Pedal past fortresses, through impressive gorges and marvel at the incredible Iron Gates, the 134 km border region between Serbia and Romania, before getting off the bikes to discover the lively streets of Bucharest on foot.
