GR Route Walking Tours
Hike one of Europe's Grande Randonnée trails
Europe has a collection of established hiking trails that are collectively known as GR. There are 100 different GR trails to explore.
So what does GR mean? GR stands for Grande Randonnée (French), Gran Recorrido (Spanish), Grande Rota (Portuguese) and Grote Routepaden (Dutch), which all translates to Great Hike. The GR trails network in Europe is an extensive series of long distance footpaths that mainly cover Western Europe. These trails are signposted and maintained by local governments (to varying degrees).
You can experience some of Europe's wonderful GR routes on a self-guided or guided walking tour. These include the GR20 trail in Corsica, the GR10 across the Pyrenees, the French Way of St James which follows the GR65, and the GR70 in the Cevennes, otherwise known as the Robert Louis Stevenson trail.
