There is arguably no better way to appreciate the vast beauty of England's Lake District than by e-bike. Our route is carefully designed to follow the quieter country lanes along scenic valleys and over breathtaking fells and mountain passes. In four days of cycling you'll cover an average distance of 35 miles with options of reducing or increasing the mileage.

With our comfortable electric bikes, this cycling holiday is suitable for all levels of fitness provided you are a reasonably confident cyclist. With the relaxed pace there is ample time for sightseeing, taking a walk on the fells and enjoy leisurely lunch breaks.

It is also possible to hire an ordinary hybrid road bike if you would prefer to make the rides more of a challenge. Please contact us if you would prefer this option.

Make your own way to the hotel in Crosthwaite. You can book an optional taxi transfer with us, ask our team for prices. Depending on your arrival time, today your e-bikes will be delivered (if arriving later in the day, your bikes will be delivered tomorrow morning). Our representative will meet you to brief you about the route and to ensure you are set up with your bicycle. Accommodation: Stay in a comfortable hotel with spa facilities in this small town in Cumbria. The hotel is outside a small village in the countryside about 4 miles from Windermere. Having 60 bedrooms, it might have coach groups staying at the same time. Or choose to upgrade to our 34-bedrooms comfortable hotel with a lot of character, with many lounges and gardens overlooking Lake Windermere for relaxing.

Meals:  Nil

Cycle through South Lakeland, crossing Lake Windermere on the cable ferry, passing Hill Top House, where Beatrix Potter was inspired when writing the Tales of Peter Rabbit and on to the pretty market village of Hawkshead in time for lunch at a choice of cafes and restaurants. The afternoon cycle passes through the historical slate mining village of Coniston, along the shores of Coniston Water and on through the rolling countryside to Broughton-in Furness, with its Georgian architecture and cobbled square. Accommodation: Stay in a 16th century inn with newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms, incl. TV and access to WiFi. Expect old-world charm, open fires, locally sourced produce where possible, and a substantial breakfast to help start your day off well.

Meals:  B

Cycle the tranquil Duddon Valley, over the stunning Wrynose Pass, down the Langdale Valley’s and through the heart of the Lake District via the villages of Elterwater and Skelwith Bridge with their wide range of cafes, pubs and restaurants for lunch. The afternoon ride offers a choice of routes around Rydal Water and Grasmere, with the option of visiting the tourist centre and market town of Ambleside. Late afternoon we organise a vehicle transfer to our accommodation. *The transfer avoids cycling on the busy A-road connecting the central and north Lakes and provides more time for exploring the beautiful northern region. If you wish to cycle this instead, it adds an extra 20km / 12.4 miles to your day. Accommodation: For two nights stay near the market town of Keswick. Stay in an Inn that offers style, comfort and character whilst retaining all the charm of a country coaching Inn.

Meals:  B

Another day of amazing beauty in the least visited and spectacular landscape of the North Lakes. The circular cycling route around the Skiddaw and Blencathryne Mountain range, takes in incredible scenery along lovely quiet fell lanes (cycling paradise) through the tranquil villages of Caldbeck and Mungresdale, returning to your accommodation below Blencathra Fell.

Meals:  B

Cycle through the craggy outcrops on Matterdale Common, over to Ullswater Lake which is one of the most stunning spots in the Lake District. From here, the route takes you over the famous Kirkstone Pass, where the views of Lake Windermere and beyond are spectacular, followed by a descent to the idyllic village of Troutbeck. Then enjoy the country lanes back to your hotel and tour start point for a relaxing treat. Accommodation: Tonight you will stay in the same property as your first night of the cycling trip.

Meals:  B

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before departure.

Grading

moderate

For a non e-bike the grading would be Moderate to Challenging. With our e-Bike motors, a leisure cyclist with limited levels of fitness would manage fine. The route is plotted to follow the quietest routes possible. Where there are easy gravel or tarmac cycle tracks available, they are used. The Heart of the Lake District cycling route is primarily quiet country lanes. The one section (end of day 2) there is not a quiet country lane option so we provide a short vehicle transfer from Grasmere to Threlkeld. *Please note that by UK law, you can ride an electric bike if you’re 14 or over.

Frequently Asked Questions

Of course you can bring your own bike. Please contact our team for exact details on the price reduction.

Yes, your bicycle comes with rear panniers. It also comes with a Garmin device on your handlebar with the routes available for you.

It is a good idea to have your own tool as the bicycles often come with limited tools as people often loose them. You might want to bring lights as well, as you can always have low cloud and low visibility, or maybe you want to cycle somewhere in the evening.

The e-bikes should be all ready to go and there is a van and mechanic support on the tour. These are normally never far away, but during the course of the tour you may want to replace an innertube after a puncture, perhaps fix an innertube, do minor brake adjustments and adjust seat pillar and handle bars, if necessary with Alan keys etc.

Under British Law it is not compulsory to wear a cycling helmet, but for safety and insurance purposes you should do. We recommend bringing your own helmet on your UK cycling holiday.
