With its dramatic coastal position and stone walls encircling the terracotta roofs of the old town, it is no wonder that Dubrovnik is known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. Discovering this enchanting city and its surrounding islands on foot is the essence of this self guided walking holiday. From the outlying region of Konavle, where the summer houses of Dubrovnik's elite were built amongst vineyards, olive groves and mountains, walk through a countryside with endearing traditions. A short ferry ride takes you to the island of Šipan, where forested trails connect pretty villages and hidden coves, perfect for a swim break. Spend two nights on the island of Mljet and explore its salted lakes and national park on foot and sample its excellent wines, goat's cheese and olive oil from the comfort of your charming guesthouse accommodation.

After breakfast you will transfer to Gruz port to catch the ferry (included) across to Lopud Island, a crossing of just under an hour. (Your luggage is transferred to the hotel in Dubrovnik). Nowadays Lopud is a charming and relatively quiet place with lovely beaches and no cars or traffic, home to a permanent population of under 300 people. In the past however, Lopud was a very important port, with great strategic importance - in the 17th century it is said to have had a population of 14,000 people, mostly involved in seafaring. Formally part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, from the 18th to the early 20th centuries, the French, English and Austrians took turns controlling this strategically located little island. Nowadays there are reminders of the island's more momentous maritime past with the atmospheric ruins of a fortress and palace, churches dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries and a restored Franciscan monastery. You will have the day to walk around the island and enjoy its beaches before taking the ferry to Dubrovnik in the afternoon. Overnight Dubrovnik. Walk 9.5km/6mi +316 m / -316 m, +1036 ft / -1036 ft Note: If rough weather makes it impossible for a passenger ferry to operate, you will not be able to sail to the island and do this walk - no refund of ticket cost is provided if this occurs.

Meals:  B

In the morning you will transfer to the port of Dubrovnik to take the ferry to the island of Sipan (included), the largest of the Elafiti islands. Disembark at the town of Sudjuradj, from where you will start walking towards the small town of Sipanska Luka. These two larger settlements are connected by a road that cuts across the fertile fields of Sipan. During the 15th century, many aristocratic Dubrovnik families built summer manors on Sipan. The summer manor of the Sorkocevic family stands out in Sipanska Luka. In Sipanska Luka you can try some local dishes and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Later in the afternoon, return to Sudjuradj and take the ferry back to Dubrovnik. Overnight in Dubrovnik. Walk: 13km/8.1mi. +252m/827ft, -255m/836ft Note: If rough weather makes it impossible for a passenger ferry to operate, you will not be able to sail to the island and do this walk - no refund of ticket cost is provided if this occurs.

Meals:  B

The island of Mljet is one of Croatia's 8 national parks. The 'green island' is well known for its untouched nature, olive groves, vineyards and rich forests with their rich flora and fauna. It's a peaceful place to enjoy the pristine beauty of the natural surroundings. Transfer from your hotel to the port, to take the ferry to Mjlet (included) then check in at your hotel, either in Polace (or Pomena). Today's walk from Polace is towards Montokuc, with magnificent views of the island. From Montokuc you descend towards the village of Seline, on one of the lakes. You can have a swim here before heading back to your hotel. *For departures in April, May and October there is only an afternoon ferry so you will complete this walk along with the lakes walk the following day. Walk: 9km/5.6mi +290m/951ft, -290m/951 ft Note: If rough weather makes it impossible for a passenger ferry to operate, you will travel between Pelješac and Mljet with a shuttle van and on the large car ferries that operate via the mainland, creating a longer travel day.

Meals:  B

Mljet National Park makes up most of the island and there are several villages and two salt water lakes - Veliko and Malo Jezero - and a lovely Benedictine monastery on the island of Sv. Marija (St Mary). Today you can walk around the islands and enjoy a leisurely day. For lunch you can go to the small restaurant on St Mary. Overnight Mljet. Walk: 15km/9.5mi. +215m/705ft, -232m/761ft
