'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry' was originally a novel written in 2012 by Rachel Joyce, which won her the UK National Book Award for New Writer of the Year.

When Harold Fry, a timid man in his later years, discovers that a former friend and colleague is seriously ill, he sets out with the intention of posting her a letter but instead embarks on 600-mile walk from Devon to Berwick-upon-Tweed. He believes that in some way his journey will help his friend to live. The Guardian.

About the Movie

Follow the journey of Harold Fry, a retiree in his 60s who receives a letter from an old friend, Queenie, who writes to Harold letting him know she's got cancer and this is goodbye. Harold writes a goodbye letter and goes to the post office to send it.

However, an encounter on the way makes Harold change his mind and he must deliver it by hand. He decides to walk to the other side of the country much to the displeasure of his wife, who tries to make him change his mind and turn back. Harold reflects on his life during the walk and meets a range of different characters along the way who push him to not give up.
