Travel Film Recommendation: The Trip to Spain, Greece, Italy & England

This British series explores human issues while enjoying fine culinary travelling

The Trip is a long running British television series starring two friends, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, playing caricatures of themselves as they journey around the world dining in top class restaurants. It's directed by the acclaimed director, Michael Winterbottom, whose previous work includes A Mighty Heart, 24 Hour Party People, and Welcome to Sarajevo.

The subtle humour is definitely an acquired taste, but even if that's not really your thing, you can't argue with the gorgeous scenery and the absolutely scrumptious food they dine on.

The Trip to England

Originally, the films began as a TV series before being edited into a film version for general broadcast around the world. It began in 2010 with The Trip, featuring Steve and Rob exploring fancy restaurants of northern England.

The Trip to Italy

Then, in 2014, they filmed a new called The Trip to Italy. In this film, the two go on a road trip in Italy from Piedmont to Capri, on the Amalfi coast. Along the way they talk about their careers, romance and food.

The Trip to Spain

2017's outing, they discover the joys of tapas in Spain. Their culinary adventures take them through Cantabria, the Basque region, Aragon, Rioja, Castile, La Mancha and Andalucia. Don't they have the best job???

The Trip to Greece

For their final movie, Rob and Steve will travel to Greece in the creatively titled: The Trip to Greece. Fine dining antics will ensue as they explore Athens, Ithica, Troy and more. It's not yet been released (April 2020).
