Writer, editor, rambler and runner Sarah Baxter last June set off for The Telegraph to check out why Andros is Greece's greatest island for walking. Her experiences on our Andros Trail Self Guided Walk were very positive, read her feedback on the trip below. Sarah has described Andros as a 'gloriously green and mountainous island, which remains low-key and has an excellent network of scenic and culturally fascinating walking trails.'

Then, in the village of Sineti, I saw my first humans – a man loading his donkey and a cafe owner setting his tables for the day.

"Andros was great. The Andros Routes project is very inspiring – what the volunteer team have achieved there is remarkable. Incredibly well waymarked routes, beautiful and varied scenery, lovely little villages. I was lucky that the north wind was a-blowing – it would have been brutally hot without it. Of course, knowing you could sink into the sea at the end of each day was a big mental help. The sea was delicious!

Everything worked out pretty well. No problems to report. The accommodation was much nicer than I expected. I managed to get a good feel for the whole programme even though I was shorter on time. And I had the trails completely to myself – I saw one other couple walking on one day, but that was it!"
