New Bike and Boat Trips For 2020

MS Provence in Lyon
MS Provence in Lyon
In the lead up to the new Active Europe Brochure 2020 being released, we're giving an early preview of three exciting new Bike and Boat trips. Explore the delightful city of Lyon and follow the Rhone River to Provence in France, fall in love with the stunning scenery of Tuscany, and take an active holiday with the kids on a trip around Greece's Peloponnese and Saronic Islands.

Peloponnese Family Bike & Sail

PEL_Poros

With its sandy beaches, turquoise waters, an incredible history spanning over 5000 years and classic Greek islands, the Saronic Gulf and Peloponnese region is ideal for gentle exploring by bike and boat. Based aboard a beautifully decked out Turkish gulet, enjoy sailing between ports with swim stops enroute before hopping on your bike to experience the essence of this fascinating region. In the Saronic Gulf, explore enchanting towns with their own distinct character, including the pistachio island of Aegina where the Temple of Aphaia sits high above the blue sea.

Cycle your way around the traffic-free island of Hydra where donkeys have for centuries been the only means of transport and discover the islands of Poros and Spetses, fragrant with wild herbs. Combined with impressive views as you cycle and sail your way around the peninsula and the delectable cuisine served onboard or at a nearby taverna, this really is a superb way for the whole family to experience one of Greece's most interesting regions.

Tuscany Bike & Sail

The majestic tallship, Atlantis

Images of Tuscany bring to mind rolling hills, epic architecture, the aromatic smell of herbs and citrus fruits and tasty cuisine and wine. Add to this a journey on a resplendent tallship to discover the islands of Elba, Giglio and the dramatic Tuscany coastline and daily cycles to explore the sights and you have the essence of our Tuscany Bike and Sail trip.

Cycle in the footsteps of the Etruscans, and enjoy the Italian 'Dolce Vita!'. Cypress trees, vineyards and olive trees spread across the rolling hills characterising the typical Tuscan landscape. Picturesque medieval towns with small cobbled streets and colorful houses feature as you cycle between ports. Beautiful sandy beaches and remote bays beckon for a swim in the glistening blue water. Aboard the tallship Atlantis with its giant sails, provides a true seafaring ambience. There is nothing better than to jump into the sea directly from the deck of the boat in a quiet bay, help out with hoisting the sails and relax on deck with a cold drink as the sun dips below the horizon.

Lyon and Provence Bike and Boat

The Rhône River holds an important place in French history as a trade route connecting many of France's most important cities and subsequently the many smaller villages that were built alongside it. Today, the cultural and architectural legacy of this period can still be found in many places along the river and the region is ideally discovered by bike and aboard a comfortable river boat.

Beginning in the culinary capital of Lyon your journey along sections of the Rhône Cycle Route to Provence will be lined in part with lush vineyards and fragrant orchards. The historic remnants make this section of the Rhône River so special including the splendid cathedrals and relics from Roman times reminding us of an important era long ago. During the ride you can also marvel at cultural treasures such as the large Roman theatre in Vienne, or the architecturally outstanding museum of the Confluences in Lyon. Based on board the premium category MS Provence river boat, there is ample time to relax on the sundeck, explore delightful Provençal villages on foot and sample the famous wine and cuisine of this special pocket of France.
