Hybrid bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, kids sized bikes, bikes with trailers, tandem bikes – going for a ride conjures up different thoughts for everyone.

Which is why we offer so many different ways to simply ‘cycle Europe’. Well maintained bikes – built for comfort, not speed - are included in the tour cost of 98% of our European cycling trips. However to truly cycle Europe your way you may wish to upgrade or swap to the bike of your choice. Check out your options.

Hybrid bikes offer the best features of mountain and road bikes.Hybrid bikes offer the best features of mountain and road bikes. With the combined features of a mountain bike and road bikes, hybrid bikes are well suited for longer distance touring on paved surfaces. The larger wheels are more efficient than a Mountain Bike and the wider rims make it sturdier than a Road Bike. They have a Mountain Bike style frame, typically between 18-27 gears, flat handlebars and some suspension. We offer hybrid bikes as standard on most of our UTracks trips.

Electric bikes look similiar to hybrid bikes, but they are heavierElectric bikes look similiar to hybrid bikes, but they are heavier E-bikes are designed to make cycling easier. The pedalling ‘boost’ opens up more options, allowing people of different fitness levels to cycle together or to allow less confident or fit cyclists to take on routes that they may otherwise consider too tough for their current capability. E-bikes are available on the majority of our bike trips in Europe. The makes and models vary from country to country. Many of our cycling trips offer an electric bike upgrade. Search them all.

Two styles of tandem bikes available on our Paris to London tripTwo styles of tandem bikes available on our Paris to London trip While the majority of bikes are designed to be ridden by one person, tandem bikes are built for two. They have two seats and two pedals but only one person can steer. If you have a trusted travelling partner, this fun way to explore Europe is worth considering. Ask us about trying a tandem bike on our Paris to London by Bike or Lake Constance by Bike trip.

Mountain bikes are built to take you to wilder placesMountain bikes are built to take you to wilder places Also referred to as MTB or ATB, Mountain Bikes are primarily designed for off-road cycling but can be used on any surface. They are stronger, typically have some type of suspension, and should really only be considered by those who have experience riding them off-road already. Saddle up on a MTB on our trips in the Mont Blanc region, along the Haute Route or even on selected Croatia Cycle & Sail trips. Mountain Bikes come standard on our Spanish Camino by Bike.

Road Bikes typically have thinner wheels and the drop handle barsRoad Bikes typically have thinner wheels and the drop handle bars Also commonly referred to as racing bikes, these bikes typically have a lighter frame, larger wheels, 20 gears and are more fragile that other types of bikes. Their main use is for speed and efficiency whilst road riding only as they are designed in such a way so the rider leans forward in a more aero dynamic position. Try a road bike on our Tuscany Cycle Explorer or Cycle San Gimignano to Siena.

Kids sized bikes

Smaller, kids sized bikes can be made available for children confident to travel with you on their own bike.

Attached to the back of the parent’s bike, these allow kids to feel like they are helping Mum or Dad, but when they get tired they can leave all the work to you and simply sit back and enjoy the ride. All the options for kids: child seat, trailer and the trail-a-bikeAll the options for kids: child seat, trailer and the trail-a-bike

Towing the kids in a trailer behind your bike is ideal for younger children who are not ready to ride their own bike. Ready to ride? Find your ideal European cycling trip.
