A Family Crosses Corsica On Foot

A FAMILY CROSSES CORSICA ON FOOT

Family on the Crossing Corsica tripFamily on the Crossing Corsica walking trip In June our family of four - myself, husband, son (aged 12 – fit and strong) and daughter (aged 10 – not so fit and strong) - took on the exciting challenge of a family walking holiday across Corsica. We set off from the picturesque town of Corte to Piana, set high above the sea. Covering a modest total distance of around 67km on foot does not evoke images of a great achievement for those used to walking holidays but with 3.6km in ascents on mostly rocky trails all of us felt proud when we finally dipped our toes in the cool waters of the Mediterranean at the end of the trip. A family walking holiday in Corsica, a great way to bondA Corsica family walking holiday is a great way to bond There are few words to describe the therapeutic advantages of taking on this type of holiday with your family. A world away from the usual rigours of an active life (school, work, playstation, etc), there is time to absorb the magic of the unfolding views, talk while you walk about all manner of things and experience, as a family, the food, towns and interactions with people from Corsica and beyond. The satisfaction of walking each day without any vehicle transfers is also a part of what makes this family walking trip in Corsica so special. The scenery is diverse; from snow covered mountains to deep gorges, bubbling streams to the beaches of the west coast. Staying at the oldest hotel in Corsica, which oozed old world charm and had the best views of any hotel we’d ever seen, was a fitting end to this incredible journey on foot. Corsica truly is a fabulous walking destination and any keen walker should put a family walking holiday in Corsica on their bucket list. PS: not so fit and strong daughter walked like a trooper with only minimal incentive! View Corsica trips. This post was contributed by Kate Baker, UTracks General Manager
