Catharism

From the 12^th to 13^th centuries, Catharism was rooted in the Foix, Aude Valley and Corbieres areas of southern France, right there where the Pyrenees begin. It was a conviction that shunned conventional Christianity and materialism and was fought against for more than forty years after which the Cathar reign ended.

A network of the secret trails of the Cathars lead to the mysterious Cathar Castles. Today many of these are in ruins, have been destroyed during the war or have been built over. However, several stunning examples of how significant the Cathars once were still remain today.
