Sofia Royle

Sofia is a Sydneysider born and raised, and brings a young, active energy to the UTracks reservations team along with a genuine eagerness to experience as much of the world as she can.

Some of her most formative years were spent across the Tasman, living in Kaikoura and Wellington for two and a half years. It was here, surrounded by New Zealand’s mountains and coastline, that she fell in love with hiking and cycling, a passion that continues to shape how she travels today.

That love of the outdoors has since grown into a love of endurance sport, and Sofia is keen to run more marathons and push beyond. In her spare time you will usually find her out on a run, exploring a hiking trail, or down at the beach for a swim, with winter doing little to put her off.

Away from the trails, Sofia is a keen follower of the arts and is happiest wandering through galleries and museums. She is also a big music lover, with her sights set on catching live gigs across Europe.

For Sofia, the real pull of travel is the alternate perspective that new cultures and places bring. She loves how it challenges what you think you know about the world, and about yourself, when everything familiar no longer applies.

With a growing appetite for two wheels, the UTracks trip at the top of Sofia’s list is the Five Countries Cycle. The idea of pedalling her own mini Tour de Europe across the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Germany, following the Meuse River and the Vennbahn Rail Trail past castles, forts and pretty villages, with a different cuisine to discover at every border, is exactly the kind of rich, active adventure she loves.
