Trip highlights

  • Island hopping and cycling through some of Croatia’s prettiest scenery
  • Exploring small fishing villages and the great towns of Hvar and Split
  • Experiencing the stunning Dalmatian coast landscapes
  • Enjoying the regional cuisine and relaxing at night in your self contained apartment

The Dalmatian Coast is one of the true wonders of Europe with arguably the clearest waters in the Mediterranean, as well as the plethora of historic and cultural interests. Experiencing this special region by bike is by far the most rewarding way to travel. From your arrival in Split until just before Dubrovnik, your journey will encounter the long and beautiful islands of Brac and Hvar, traveling by bike and ferry. The scenery alternates between seaside villages, tiny medieval walled towns and lovely quiet pebbled bays, set against a backdrop of pine forests and mountains. Your final leg takes you to the red roofs of Dubrovnik, the proud port city that once rivaled Venice in wealth and influence.

On the hillside of Vidova Gora 778m/2552ft (the highest peak of all the Croatian Islands) you will have great views of the sea and mainland and from the top a view out to the famous Zlatni rat, an extraordinary shingle spit and the neighbouring islands. The morning begins with a transfer by boat to the island of Hvar (via Split) and the town of Stari Grad / Pharos, the oldest town in Croatia. Stari Grad literally translates as ‘old town’ and was established in 384BC. From town Stari Grad the cycle continues to historic Hvar town. On arrival there is free time to explore Hvar town with its exquisite Venetian-style architecture or climb up to the fortress for a superb view. It is worth taking a boat to the Pakleni islands that are the most attractive and most visited spot. They can be reached from Hvar by motor boats that leave every 15 minutes. The islands, acting as a natural shelter for Hvar port, have been inhabited since Illyrian times. Overnight Hvar Town.

Meals:  B

Return to Stari Grad for overnight accommodation. The remainder of the day is free to explore the town and surrounds. Near to the town are pine forests, olive groves and vineyards, while the town itself has a unique harbour and interesting narrow alleyways leading to café’s and small squares. Overnight in an apartment.

Meals:  B

Your exploration of the island of Hvar continues by cycling east to Jelsa. The town is quite small but is well known for producing excellent red wines.
