Mont St Michel & the Emerald Coast
From the pirate town of St Malo to the French marvel, Mont St Michel, a walk along the Emerald Coast in Brittany offers active travellers a chance to absorb the highlights of the region at a relaxed pace. Beginning in the harbour town of St Malo whose lively cafes and bars rest in the shadow of the citadel ramparts, the route follows the GR24, one of France's principal long distance walking trails. With stops en route at Cancale, famous for its oysters, and the birdlife-rich Point du Grouin, the final stage to Mont Saint Michel is quite spectacular. Located on a rocky tidal island, the impressive abbey of Mont Saint Michel has a colourful history and an imposing position on the coastal landscape, representing an ideal end to this journey on foot.
