Dolomites Hut to Hut
The Dolomites were named after Deodat de Dolomieu, a French geologist who discovered an unusual carbonate rock with foreign properties in 1789. "Dolomite" became the name of both the mineral as well as the mountain range in which he found it. Long known as a paradise for rock climbers, the Dolomites are a great destination for fit hikers as well. The soaring limestone spires of the Dolomites make a stunning backdrop to pretty villages, mountain meadows and a highly developed trail system. Summer is the season to explore these trails, when nature shows itself in full splendour. To fully experience the region a close-knit and varied network of paths are used to traverse the forests, rock faces, rivers, and lakes of the 'Monti Pallidi', or Pale Mountains. The rifugios are atmospheric and cosy with dining rooms serving delicious typical Italian and Tyrolean local cuisine. A guided climb on one day using the Via Ferrate is available for an additional supplement.
