On this superb bike and barge tour you'll experience both, along with the diverse scenery and history of northern France and the region of Flanders. Along the way, you'll explore small art-deco towns such as Ham and Ronse, and marvel at the stunning scenery which inspired many painters including Van Gogh, Permeke, Van Eyck and Corot. You'll pass many reminders of the First World War including the Armistic and Peronne museums. Impressive cathedrals, abbeys, chateaus and palaces can be seen and visited during the trip. Cycling along the rivers Seine, Oise and Somme, in the company of your expert guide, through farmland and past small villages, ensures you gain a unique insight into this special region. Returning each evening to your comfortable floating hotel you'll make new friends, relax and enjoy delicious meals onboard.

DAY 1 Embarkation in Paris mid afternoon DAY 2 Breakfast cruise on the Seine, city walk in central Paris DAY 3 Cycle along towpaths to St Germain and Auvers (40km/24mi) DAY 4 To Beaumont sur Oise and afternoon visit to Chantilly Chateau (50km/31mi) DAY 5 Cruise to Pont Saint Maxence, then by bike through small towns to Verberie and Compiegne (55km/34mi) DAY 6 Visit the Armistice de la Clairiere where the WWI armistice was signed, continue past ruins and woodlands to Noyon (40-55km/24-34mi) DAY 7 Through Ham to Peronne (65km/40mi) DAY 8 Rest day in the charming town of Peronne DAY 9 Cycle along the Somme river to Ruyaulcourt (45km/27mi) DAY 10 Visit Cambrai, pass the marshlands of Chantraine and on to rural Arleux (45km/27mi) DAY 11 Cross the border into Belgium and cycle towards Tournai (65km/20mi) DAY 12 By bike through farmland to Ronse and Oudenaarde (50km/31mi) DAY 13 Cycle along the Scheldt river through idyllic scenery to Ghent (35-50km/21-31mi) DAY 14 Cruise to Aalter then pass quiet villages and castles to Bruges (50km/31mi) Day 15 Trip concludes in Bruges

On the departures marked with 'S' a second barge is used and follows a slightly different itinerary with a rest day in St Quentin with a day excursion to the battlefields in the Somme Valley (see trip notes for details).
