traveller reviews

  • An excellent walking trip and level of difficulty well classified. Very good organization and all material received in a timely fashion. Excellent accommodation. Wonderful scenery and good selection of walks to choose from. I. Singleton. Melbourne, VIC. Australia
  • We opted for the easier choices in the route notes, and sometimes created our own walking routes, but still really enjoyed the holiday. The scenery is breathtaking, as were some of the climbs. Meiringen is a good choice for a base, as so many walks are easily accessible from there. All the walks are well marked, and it is a delight to round a corner and see snow capped mountains, or a cute village. R. Lea. Caringbah, NSW. Australia
Situated at the convergence of three of Switzerland's major passes, Grimsel, Susten, and Brunig, Meiringen is the perfect base for walking in Switzerland. This small market town in the Hasli Valley has every facility yet remains unspoilt and typically Swiss - a place for the discerning traveller who wants to see the real Switzerland. A superb integrated network of cable cars, post buses and trams can take you in all directions reaching spectacular locations quickly and easily. The walks from Meiringen seem limitless and encompass all grades, from gentle strolls to high ridges and even glacier exploration. In the spring you can follow the melting snows into meadows of glorious alpine flowers and butterflies. In summer the high ridges and the rugged glacial scenery become accessible. In autumn the landscape is painted with a riot of colour as the first frosts come. Besides the walking programmes, Meiringen is the perfect place for numerous other activities including swimming, skating, mountain biking and cycling. During your time a visit to the tearooms to sample the delicacy named after the town, meringues, is a must.
