Bike & barge holidays are one of the most popular ways for individuals and families to experience the numerous hidden corners of Europe. Unlike inns, B&B’s and the small family run hotels that dot the European landscapes, bike & barge based active holidays are extremely limited in capacity so you must plan your trip well in advance to ensure you don’t miss the boat!
Most barges offer twin cabins in a bunk style configuration (though some have side by side beds and triple/quad cabins suitable for families). Cabins are compact but comfortable. The cabins may have ensuite facilities and accommodate between 15 and 20 passengers plus crew depending on the boat. There is a communal dining area and meals are taken onboard. The barges travel along calm waterways, usually travelling no faster than 15km per hour. Refer to the detailed trip notes for more information about the barge used on a particular trip.
